Pilgrimage Retreat - Discovering the Sacred Within

A Pilgrimage is often thought of as a long journey to a sacred site, as an act of religious devotion. It is possible, however, to choose to live as a pilgrim. We invite you to join us for a day-long exploration of pilgrimage. Roger Joslin and Like DeBenedditis will be leading separate retreats for men and women and will use their experienced of walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, an ancient 500 mile journey across Spain, to illustrate the nature of pilgrimage. Tending For Loss

In our culture, talking about death (ours and those in our communities) is among the most taboo of topics. Yet this attitude prevents us from approaching with curiosity, what is the most existentially profound event in any life.                

Led by parishioner and licensed psychoanalyst, Lisa DeBenedittis, Tending for Loss will be a lively, four-evening series designed for participants of all beliefs and phases of life who would appreciate the opportunity to discuss death — stripped of cultural taboos and sentimental norms. 

We will meet in the Holy Trinity Parish Hall on the second Monday of each month for four consecutive months (2/11; 3/11; 4/8; 5/13) from 6-7:30pm. It is free of charge, but please register in advance at 646/761-5652 or psychepractice@gmail.com

Coffee and tea will be provided.

Thanksgiving Prayer to Share

O God, 

We thank you on this special day of Thanksgiving for our many blessings and the opportunity to enjoy being with those whom we love and cherish. We bless you for the earth and all it holds, for the seas and all their riches, and for the heavens and all that fills them. We bless you for the mountains and valleys, the lakes, rivers, and streams, the forests, deserts, plains and all that inhabits them.

In our hearts and minds, we are grateful to the persons and events that have brought some light and comfort into our lives. Help us recognize how indebted we are to each other. Inspire us to see the possibilities that every day and moment can offer us even in the midst of confusion, uncertainty, and fear.

We hope and pray for peace and safety during the coming holidays and new year. 

Bless us and our efforts to find the best life has to offer beyond mere survival, and to share understanding and kindness. 

May we be alert to ways of being ever more generous with all the gifts you have given us for the support, protection, and enrichment of life on earth.

Farm-to-Table Harvest Dinner - "AN ECUMENICAL EFFORT"

By any criteria, the Farm-to-Table Harvest Dinner at Holy Trinity Church in Greenport last Saturday evening, was a rousing success!  Fully sold out in advance, the 84 seated diners were a remarkably animated and enthusiastic group enjoying a wonderful cornucopia of food. 

Even more encouraging, was the almost seamless merging of members from Holy Trinity Church, Church of the Redeemer and the Hispanic Ministry that made it resemble a festive occasion rather than a dinner.

The whole elaborate meal was prepared just about from scratch by members of the three congregations and served buffet-style.  The ‘salad to gourmet coffee’ menu featured roasted turkey, stuffing and gravy, roasted ham and gravy, chili, Salvadorian rice, beans, a variety of farm-fresh fall vegetables, some prepared at home and brought in by members of the three congregations, all topped off by homemade pies (ala mode) and wines.  You might say “an ecumenical” effort!

Special thanks to the Parish Hall decorators, home-food preparers and the 50/50 Raffle Sellers. 

The wines were donated by Lenz Vineyards and fresh vegetables by Sep’s Farm Stand.
