THE GARTH PROJECT

A garth is an enclosed sacred space – like a close, or a courtyard you would find in a monastery.

As you can see below, the Garth project on the front lawn of Holy Trinity is complete. We have a new front stoop leading into the nave, an accessible ramp made of herringbone laid brick, hardscape arranged in the form of an octagon (often symbolizing rebirth and resurrection) with brick pathways outlining a Celtic cross, crushed bluestone quadrants for seating, a fountain (possibly for the occasional baptism) and all manner of shrubs, small trees, and seasonal plantings. We have created a garden that serves as a beckoning threshold onto sacred ground, a place where visitors can find sanctuary and fellowship, quiet moments of prayer and meditation, and an opportunity to appreciate beauty, nature, and sensory delight. The Garth is our gift to the community and provides an entrance to the holy, especially designed for those souls seeking a spiritual experience, but who are hesitant to pass through the doorway into a church building. "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

Welcome!
